Hillcrest Lacrosse FAQs
What is Hillcrest Lacrosse -
Hillcrest Lacrosse is a club team centered in North Dallas at Hillcrest High
School. Our members are from DISD schools or private schools within the DISD
boundary that do not have lacrosse programs. We have programs for 3rd through
12th grades. We have been in existence for 16 years and won the 2011 Texas High
School Lacrosse DII State Championship.
When is Lacrosse season -
Traditionally in March and April, some games may bleed a couple of weeks either
side of those months. We will try to play 8-12 games during the season. Home
games will be played at Franklin Field or a field located around the Hillcrest
HS campus. There are summer and fall recreational leagues as well.
Is lacrosse a contact sport-
Yes, checking is allowed - there are strict guidelines on contact. Injuries do
occur but are much less prevalent than football and soccer.
What type of equipment do I need -
A stick (crosse), gloves, elbow and shoulder pads and a helmet. Beginners
packages are about $225.00 and will last several years depending on your son’s
growth. Not Just Soccer or Team Sports.
Do you have loaner or test equipment -
Yes.
I feel like a klutz-
Lacrosse is everything your mother told you NOT to do – “Don’t run with a
stick.” It takes boys 4-6 weeks of practice to get used to running with a stick,
passing and catching a ball while running with a stick. At the end of the day,
your mother will be yelling at you to “Run faster with the stick!”
Team Fees -
Our youth fees are $300.00; high school somewhat higher. Additionally boys must
be members of US Lacrosse (www.uslacrosse.org) $25/youth & $35/High School. That being said, no boy
will be turned down due to financial need.
Practices -
Youth, generally 2-3 days a week in January-April (no practice on game days); 1x
per week in December. High School practice times are comparable to other varsity
sports.
Scholarships -
If your boy wants to play and you are in financial need, scholarships can be
arranged.
